2 Londoners riding the Vätternrundan fixed... advice

Post by funkt » 09 Jun 2014 15:28

Hi there,

My buddy Rollo and I are heading over to ride the Vätternrundan on Friday. We are staying in Stockholm and travelling to Motala by train for the ride.

Just wanted to check that we won't have any trouble with bike boxes on the train and if there was any specific advice on getting the train you might have?

Also, any other information that will make things easier for us would be much appreciated.

Are many of you riding? Will you be fixed too? Give us a shout if you spot us, we have a start time of about 8.45pm.

Thanks!
Lee

Breakes and lights are required. Have you checked out the rules?

Yes, we have checked the rules, swapped out our bull horns for drops and both of us run a front brake - but no back brake - surely we don't need a back brake do we?

We also have decent lights but are hopefully going to pick up reflectors on the day as I'm not really sure I'd be able to get the right ones here in the UK as they sound quite specific.

You can by al the lights and reflectors you need in Motala where you pick up your ride number at the Expo Marquee.

This year I ride my geared bike and start at 19.46 number 641. I will go slow due to the fact that I want to stop at every pitstop to eat, drink and talk. To do Vätternrundan under 15 hours is a failure. :-)

Whats your ride numbers?

Good luck!

Amazing! What a beautiful and well organised ride.

We managed 14hrs with 4hrs of stops which makes an average speed of 18mph over the 186 miles (10hrs moving time). Pretty chuffed considering 100 miles of it was into an unrelenting 20mph head wind :-/

Will be back for sure and fixed, only saw 2 others riding fixed who happened to be Londoners too! Ha!

Thanks for the help and advice! See you next year!

Separating moving time and pitstop time, that was a good way to carry out the Vätternrundan and get the best out of both :)

But how about the breaks, did they accept front break only?

They didn't really look! But I can't believe they would have turned us away... It didn't seem like that kind of vibe at all.

It was nice meeting you on the last kilometer before the finishing line.
